Hartbeespoort Dam, including Skeerpoort and Maanhaarrand, is an area situated in the Bojanala region of the North West Province, South Africa. It is located perfectly near Johannesburg and Pretoria for tourists who would like to visit the area. Hartbeespoort Dam is the principal water recreation area of the Northen district of Gauteng and situated just South of the Magaliesberg range.The Dam wall was constructed in 1925. Its current capacity is 205 million cubic metres and its shoreline, when full, is about 56km.
This area is a very popular tourist destination because of its many hiking trails, bird sanctuaries and other outdoor activities. The name of the dam is Afrikaans for “pass of the hartebeest” (antelope) and the village of Hartbeespoort is laid out near the dam.. It is situated in the newly named BOJANALA REGION.
