Geography and history

Brits, including Babelegi and Beestekraal, is a farming town located in the Bojanala region of the North West Province in South Africa. It was established in 1924 on a farm named Roode Kopjes and was named after the owner of the farm, Gert Brits. The area of Brits is a very fertile land and produces refreshing citrus crops which are irrigated by the Hartbeespoort Dam.

The armistice treaty of the Boer Civil War was signed in 1864 under a karee tree near the town of Brits. The town has a population of about 13 000 residents and has seen a recent ascend in development because of the increased mining activity in the area.
